Fern's Amazing Adventure
“Skiing isn’t just a profession, it’s my passion,” says Voyager Adventure and Voyager Ski co-ordinator Fern. Fern has been busy coordinating ski trips with Voyager for four months now. We’re pleased to have her on the team as a travel expert and has worked in the industry and managed ski tours for 5 years before she joined Voyager. Yet there’s more to Fern than meets the eye. Fern is a reservist for the Royal Air Force. This means she could get called up at any time to serve in the armed forces; it also means she spends a lot of weekends training and working with the military.
Early in March you wouldn’t have been able to reach Fern in our Voyager offices. She was off on a winter survival course in the Hardangervidda Plateau in Norway. Check out Fern’s fantastic photographs of snow-capped mountains, beautiful ice-caps androutes perfect for cross-country skiing. Fern had a wonderful experience; normally a downhill skier, it was her first time cross-country skiing and she also learnt loads of interesting information about avalanches, cold weather injury, and arctic clothing. Part of the exercise saw her team learn about the route taken by Norwegian servicemen during the Second World War when they staged a heroic sabotage of a Nazi heavy water plant in the region.
Fern’s back in the office now organising school ski trips and adventure holidays. She may be a long way from the snowy fells of Hardangervidda Plateau but she’s ready to plan something exciting and invigorating for your next school tour.
If you’d like to learn more about this story or perhaps you’d like to chat to one of our team about a possible ski trip for your school this coming winter, please telephone 01273 827 327 for more details or drop us a line and we'll call you!.
